The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by instructing students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.
At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his perspective on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union rejected the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these immediately upon entering government.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a conflict,” Kebede stated.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”
The party, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on its educational plans and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments indicated the group would reform the educational framework. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with education – truly monumental. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
Farage expressed that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that there are two points of view and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. This is a huge undertaking in both Britain and America.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “an avowed radical” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Roughly a million individuals are employed in education in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for students.
During the American gathering, Farage also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I make that commitment now and I’ll do that.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. According to its online description: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to every interested learner.”
