The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG

The gritty universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to create a TTRPG set within the series' apocalyptic setting. The project has been announced, with a funding drive planned to begin in the spring of 2026.

"This endeavor aims to deliver the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the table, providing fans a new way to experience The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an official release.

Initial offerings are set to feature a starter set, core rulebooks, a GM screen, figurines, and various deluxe editions.

Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World

In this setting, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was unleashed in New York City, plunging the United States into chaos. As the crisis escalates, society crumbles and violent factions emerge, transforming the city into a battlefield. To restore order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. That’s where the players come in.

Work on the game has been underway for about three years, and it is confirmed to be complete. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a wider audience, specifically in North America. Production is slated to begin immediately following the campaign, with deliveries projected for later in 2026.

A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System

A preview at the system confirms it uses 10-sided dice exclusively through its new GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and tactical approach. Players use skills or traits to roll small dice pools, typically from one to five d10s.

  • Instead of adding results together, players choose a single “resolution die” from the pool.
  • This dice is then compared against a target difficulty.
  • Rolling a perfect 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as extra damage or boosted support.

Combat Emphasize Tactical Placement and Awareness

Battles prioritize positioning and situational awareness, mirroring the video games. Factors like taking cover, elevation, or line of sight have a direct impact success chances. This mechanic is designed to favor teamwork and clever tactics instead of raw numbers.

A Novel Wound System

The way injuries is managed adds a compelling narrative layer. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by decreasing the number of d10s.

  1. At zero health, an operative is downed, but is not unconscious.
  2. They may still move and perform restricted acts, simulating the last stand seen in many shooter games.
  3. Any player in this state must consult a injury chart, potentially gaining persistent effects like trauma or mobility-impairing wounds.

A Ready-to-Play Scenario

A free introductory rulebook will be released in the near future. It includes a pre-made introductory scenario titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group spearhead the search for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an assault by the violent Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the complete product lineup will be unveiled closer to the Kickstarter start date.
