Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
