Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
