Strong winter gusts caused walls to collapse onto flimsy shelters housing people displaced by war in Gaza, claiming the lives of no fewer than four people. This tragedy underscores the dangerous situation that persist after more than two years of devastating bombardment and critical lack of humanitarian assistance.

Ceasefire Offers Little Respite from Harsh Weather

Although a ceasefire has been active since October, humanitarian organizations state that Palestinians do not have the adequate housing necessary to withstand recurring winter storms.

Officials at Gaza City's largest medical facility, which took in the bodies, reported on Tuesday that the deceased were a pair of adult females, a girl, and a male adult.

In a separate incident, the Gaza health ministry stated on Tuesday that a one-year-old boy died of hypothermia overnight.

"The world has allowed us to experience loss of life in all its forms," stated a family member following the funeral. "While it is correct the shelling may have paused for now, but we have witnessed all imaginable reasons of death in the world in the Gaza Strip."

Family Buried in Tent Collapse

As per Shifa hospital, three members of a single family — elderly a man, his teenage granddaughter, and his son's wife — were killed when an eight-metre high wall fell on top of their dwelling in a area near the sea of the city. At least five others were hurt in the event.

Their relatives on that day began clearing the debris that had entombed their loved ones and reconstructing the tent shelters for survivors.
