Antony Price, the visionary style architect behind some of the most iconic looks favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

Price's death comes just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
