American Military Executes Lethal Strike in Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities
As stated by a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the US military executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four people.
“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”
Context and Prior Actions
The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on social media, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, vowing to increase the military buildup.
Only on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Defends Actions Amid Pressure
The government has faced growing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.
Although the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to confirm a broader geopolitical objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This indicates the military campaign may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's sitting leadership.
